Profile
Engelberg Monastery provides the Stiftsschule with a foundation rooted in Benedictine traditions of education. The Stiftsschule is a Christian boarding and day school that is rich in tradition, and which offers a varied and modern educational program.
Our school and its boarding facilities are open to boys and girls alike. The school is comprised of a Gymnasium (a high school which prepares students for university education) and a Secondary School (the “IOS”, which prepares students for vocational training). Additionally, the school offers boarding. We are a place for living and learning, enabling students to take on responsibility, both for themselves and for the broader community.
Our school aims to kindle and promote the intellectual abilities of our students, giving them sound basic knowledge, prompting them to think independently and helping them to develop inquiring minds.
We help our students with their educational development by offering support appropriate to their educational level. We encourage both individual accomplishment and meaningful cooperation with others.
Studying at designated times is intended to aid the students in fulfilling their school work in a calm learning atmosphere.
We are convinced that our lives and the world gain meaning through following Christ. Fulfilling life’s purpose also means accepting the tasks that everyday life places before us. This is something we wish to practice by example to the young people at the Stiftsschule. It is important to us to create an atmosphere of openness and respect towards people who think differently than we do, towards other religions, and towards other cultures.
